Robbed!

Last Friday evening we arrived home as usual. I had to change, and pack an overnight bag for my eldest to take for a sleepover at a friend's house that night. 30 minutes after we got home, it was time to leave again. I told eldest to get his Nintendo DS (handheld game system) to take with him to friend's house (they like to play this together/switch games). He went into the living room to get it and came back to me and said it wasn't there.

me: "Well, isn't that where you plugged it in this morning to charge?"

eldest: "Yes."

me: "Then it's got to be there, go look again!"

eldest: "OK." "It's not there!"

me, thinking, must I do everything! How hard can it be to get something from where he put it this morning! Sigh! Going into the living room - "OH! OK, well, you failed to mention the TV was missing too!"

eldest: "I thought maybe Dad had taken it somewhere."

me: "And he would have cut these wires with a knife because?"

eldest: "I don't know. Didn't notice that."

me: "Well, looks like your gameboy did get stolen. Along with our TV. And hummm, what else - oh great, they took all 3 remote controls! Guess they didn't know which one worked the TV, so they took the Dish and the DVD remotes too! Brilliant!"

me: " Well, we need to go - you have to be at your buddy's by 7pm. I'll call Dad and he can call the police!"

OK, I have to admit. We were probably asking for this. We have lived at this house about 10 years, and never lock our side door. We live out in the country, I even leave my keys in my car at night! Well, not anymore. We now lock up everything.

The thief was just not very brilliant. He walked past my computer, which was worth 2x what my computer is. Walked past my engagement ring (forgot to put it back on after making meatloaf). He was obviously in a hurry. and high.

We are blessed that he did not take more. Glad that eldest wasn't home alone that day.

Now I have the headache of dealing with the home owner's insurance! joy!

That is terrible y'all were robbed! It is never a comforting thought to know that some stranger was in your home. I hope the police are able to find out who took all your stuff.
PS. I agree with your comments on Sheri's site. My sister sends her children to public school, too, and they are just fine.

Oh I'm so sorry. It has been my experience that robbers are not the brightest blubs in the bunch.
I once had someone come into my house through a window he smashed...and then had no way of getting out!!! The doors were bolted with keys and the screens on the windows were so old they had rusted in place. Silly man, didn't think of cutting the screens with a knife. He got caught trying to use the knife as a screwdriver, trying to remove the dead bolts.

I'm so glad no one was hurt. The headaches eventually go away, and stuff can be replaced.

Hey, did he take your passport?

So sorry that you were robbed. Thankfully there were no children at home and that things are replaceable.
We aren't good about locking our house either. Wake up call for me.

Thanks for sharing the truth and your faith so boldly. Keep going.

Oh no! I am so sorry that happened! You shouldn't have to lock your doors, but I guess you will now!

Glad you are safe! That would freak me out, having a burglar in the house.

We were relieved the other night when we came home (after being gone ALL DAY) to see that we hadn't closed the garage door. Praise God no thieves were wandering our neighborhood that day!
